The experience
The coast around Sperlonga is at its most beautiful in the last hours of daylight. Our concierge arranges a sunset outing with a local skipper, leaving the harbour in the early evening and following the shoreline past sandy bays, watchtowers and the cliffs beneath the white town. The boat slows near the Grotto of Tiberius, where the emperor once dined beside the sea, and pauses in a quiet cove for a swim when the water is warm. As the sun lowers towards the islands on the horizon, an aperitivo is served on board with local wine and small bites. You return to the harbour at dusk, as the lights of the old town come on.
