Between Sperlonga and Gaeta lies one of the loveliest stretches of the Lazio coast. Our concierge arranges a guide and driver for a half day that begins in Sperlonga's whitewashed old town, a maze of steps and arches above the sea, and continues to the National Archaeological Museum and the Villa of Tiberius, where sculptures found in the emperor's grotto are displayed. The coast road then leads to Gaeta, with a visit to the Sanctuary of the Montagna Spaccata, where a cleft in the rock drops straight to the water, and a walk through the medieval quarter of Sant'Erasmo. Before returning, there is time to taste tiella, Gaeta's traditional filled pie.
